Ep. #619 | If I Had to Start My Business All Over Again

This one came to me on a walk (where most episodes do), and it’s really about the intersection of what’s changing in business, what’s changing with consumers, and what isn’t changing about the value you bring as a practitioner.

In this episode I cover:

  • Stop being a generalist. Your credentials are your title, not your positioning. Become known for the problem you solve and the population you help
  • The midlife health opportunity. There are more women navigating perimenopause and menopause right now than there are people equipped to help them.
  • Be the general contractor, not the one-stop shop. You don’t have to be everything. Know your zone of genius, build a referral network, and cross-pollinate. Your “competition” might actually be your best referral partner.
  • AI is commoditizing information. Meal plans, training programs, marketing copy, people can get those for free now. What they can’t get from AI is your judgment, your context assessment, your ability to read between the lines, and your capacity to coach behaviour change. That’s your moat.
  • Build an ecosystem, not a single offer. One-to-one work, group containers, self-paced programs, digital resources, hybrid delivery.
  • Stay consistent. Stop pivoting every two months. Your audience gets confused and so do you. Pick your thing, stick to it, and build the lifetime value of your clients.
  • Be the purple duck. If your industry is saturated, that’s not an excuse to blend in.
  • Learn from people who’ve actually done it. Surround yourself with mentors and peers who have the receipts, not just the talk.
