Ep. #137 | Using Keto Principles to Build a Healthy Diet with Stephanie Estima
I am delighted to have a guest on this episode that I had on the show a few weeks back, Dr. Stephanie Estima. Towards the end of episode 135, we started to talk about eating strategies designed specifically for women’s health. And I said to her: you know, this feels like another whole conversation. So, here we are, having another whole conversation!
In this episode, we cover fasting, keto, pitfalls that Dr. Stephanie has seen when advising women on their eating habits, and some body science that will help everyone make good choices for their bodies.
Dr. Stephanie Estima is a Chiropractic doctor with a special interest in functional neurology, brain metabolism, and female physiology. She is particularly focused on distilling strategies in nutritional proxies, movement, posture, and mindset to help actualize female potential, health span, longevity, and achievement. Dr. Estima is the author of Betty Body and a podcast called Better. Her life’s passion and mission is blending modern science with ancient wisdom to empower women’s health and healing.
Here are the main topics of this wonderful conversation:
- How and why keto should be different for women than men
- Physiological background on how keto works and how diet choices can lead to cravings and abandoning keto
- Examples of how to incorporate specific foods into a healthy keto plan
- Any healthy diet is a balance that fits you as an individual
- A recommended starting point if you’re new to keto
- Incorporate knowledge of your cycle into your diet and exercise plan for maximal benefits
- How all of these principles apply to menopausal women
- How Dr. Stephanie approaches fasting
Hoping this episode supports you on the path of knowing, accepting, and loving who you truly are. Wishing more simplicity and ease in all that you do!

I wish that I could share a smell with your ears because I wore a chocolate Mandarin hand and body bomb while record this episode and it smelled so delicious that it was distracting. It’s a really rich balm. My family uses it on our hands, bodies, and lips. It’s from skin essence organics and works great even on dry, chapped areas or sensitive skin. A question that came in from one of our listeners asked if I have any natural health recommendations to help relieve the restlessness and nervousness they feel because of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). I first want to say that without knowing health history and background, I can’t recommend any “prescriptions” based on just this question and I encourage anyone feeling this way to work with your regular healthcare provider or reach out to us at hello@jennpike.com. In the meantime, I suggest looking into ‘clear day’ from St. Francis Herb Farm. It uses a combination of herbs to help calm your body but it isn’t a sedative. Regular listeners know that I always share with you the things I incorporate into my routines to make the really boring things less tedious. Today I’m drinking water, but I’ve added some powdered vitamin C and a scoop of grass fed collagen peptides from Garden of Life. You can also put this into your smoothies, shakes, coffee, or whatever you like. You can even add it into your baking! One scoop is a really simple way to get me 20 grams of collagen.
