Ep #121 | How to Choose Better for You and the Planet with Lisa Karandat & Alexa Monahan
Welcome to another episode of The Simplicity Sessions! Today I am having an amazing conversation with Lisa Karandat & Alexa Monahan from Good JuJu. Lisa and Alexa founded Good Juju to inspire and empower people to make small, incremental changes to their daily routine, with the hope that together we can change the world. They spent years working in the natural health industry, and have witnessed the power that pure, natural ingredients have on our health each and every day. They believe that what you put on your body is equally as important as what you put in your body.
They also know that our daily choices matter, on a micro and macro level. For example, they’ve seen firsthand how beneficial organic farming is not only for the quality of ingredients it produces but also for the quality of the soil and the environment overall. They have also learned how destructive and unnecessary single-use plastics are to our health, the environment, and the future of our planet.
Lisa and Alexa are passionate about natural health, about the environment, and they are passionate about change. They know that the journey to zero waste can feel overwhelming. You may feel like you don’t know where to begin, fear you won’t do it properly, or that you’ll have to sacrifice quality or performance – but none of this is true. As Anne-Marie Bonneau says, “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
Here are the main topics of this much-needed conversation:
- Lisa and Alexa share how they got involved in the natural health business.
- Lisa and Alexa share the reasons why Good Juju came into existence.
- Good Juju’s shampoo and conditioners are formulated along with a naturopath and a hairdresser.
- Good Juju’s laundry strips.
- How your body is impacted by toxic ingredients.
- Why are Good Juju’s products mostly compostable?
- How to use a shampoo and conditioner bar.
- Best way to store your bars.
- How you can make an impact with the choices that you make every day.
- The great benefits to your health from avoiding plastic.
You can make a difference, just take action! Start with the good and you will see how easy it is! Wishing more simplicity and ease in all that you do!

Good JuJu actually means good energy, good karma. The founders of Good Juju created shampoo and conditioner bars and everything is about zero waste and zero impact to our environment, and not only talking about the planet, but in regards to your own body environment including your immune system, gut, fertility, and endocrine system. The bar I use is the Oily to Fine Hair and it has been a game-changer! With organic ingredients that even promote your hair growth, the conditioner bar is marvellous as well. One little bar is equivalent to three bottles of any commercial shampoo. While shopping at Good JuJu use code JENNPIKE10 for 10% off your orders.

Here is one tip from me to you! I have to confess that I have a couple of days where my digestive system was feeling off, and that is not normal for me. Was it something that I ate? I gave myself time to reflect and realize that I am now creating some exciting new projects and consequently I am not consuming enough food, my creative side tends to overrule my normal eating habits.
I went to my cabinet and took ginger liquid tincture that helps with upset stomach and any digestive issues. I used some fizzy water, stirred out about 50% of the bubbles, added a couple of milliliters of the ginger tincture, and squeezed a little lime in. I sipped on it and in less than 1 hour, felt such a big difference!
