Small Reminders From Big Teachers

Welcome to Day 7 of ‘The 14 Days of Simplicity’…we’re half way there!

I had such a relaxing weekend with my family and as today flowed on the kids were playing, my husband was searching for next years holiday and I was doing some writing – it really was such bliss. But just when I thought I couldn’t feel any better I was paid a “visit” by one of my biggest and most influential teachers in life, my six-year-old daughter Emerson. I was writing away and she came over and said, “Mom, I need a break from playing, my body needs to move more I ‘m feeling funky, let’s workout!” I laughed at first thinking she was kidding around but then she gave me this impish little look that she has and said, “No Mom seriously, I am going to get changed and if you’re not ready to do a dvd with me when I get back you’ll be sorry because soon you’re going to feel funky too”.

I laughed and thought a) dear gawd, its me only smaller and b) she’s right, I will feel funky soon so I am totally going to join her!

She chose a Jillian Michael’s dvd and we started, she had her little pink 1 pound free weights and was so into it. She actually talked backed to the tv a few times saying things like, “this girl has got to be kidding me?! and “is she seriously still counting?! It was hilarious and so fun too.

We were nearing the end of the 30 minute workout when she looked over to me and said Mom, we’re like Wonder Women right now…I could have squeezed the life out of her right then and there (and cried). She then collapsed during the ab series and I asked if she wanted to stop? she looked at me like I was crazy and said, “stop? No way I was born for this!”

Holy heck, it is true! What you do, what you teach, what you preach and how you live does wear off on your kids:)

I am so happy she got me up and exercising today, if she hadn’t I probably would have just kept sitting on my arse writing. Today, my six-year-old was the best tribe mate, Personal Trainer  and teacher I could have asked for.

As I sit here now and write this all I am thinking is I cannot wait until she is old enough for the two of us to go on a yoga retreat together!

You may be wondering how this story of my day translates into a tip for you?

Well here it is:

1. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that the way you live your life and the energy you give off isn’t directly impacting, affecting and teaching everyone around (especially your little ones) something about themselves.

2. Your tribe or mentors don’t always need to be someone more successful than you or farther along then where you are now. Sometimes your greatest teachers and mentors in life are the ones you tuck in at night.

3. The most important take-away form today for me was to remember that there is always enough time for ‘it’ all, you just have to choose in each moment what is going to bring you most joy and what will create lasting memories:)

Have an incredible sleep
