In today’s episode I am going to share with you the impact that alcohol has on our bodies, I know this is a difficult topic, since a glass of wine is very often related to socializing, celebrations, and relaxing… Hold on there!  I am not going to tell you not to drink, but awareness needs to be brought to this subject.

In this episode, I will address some facts about how our female bodies manage alcohol and also some practical tips and strategies I personally use and recommend in my practice. I want to share with you my own experience related to this topic, since I drink alcohol and there was a time when I used to drink more than I do now; I will give you the details about how my body responded, how I felt and why I decided to significantly reduce the amounts of alcohol that I drink. I also want to share the things that I choose to indulge myself, since it’s not all about restriction after all!

Here are the main topics you will hear about in this awesome episode:

  • The liver and its functions.
  • Alcohol consumption affects the liver and this has consequences on the ability to detoxify, absorb nutrients, keep blood sugar balanced, and hydration (among others!).
  • Cravings and its relationship with alcohol intake.
  • There is an increase of estrogen in women that regularly drink alcohol, that dramatically elevates the chances of suffering breast cancer
  • Did you know that a serving of wine is equal to 3 ounces?
  • You should avoid wines that are not organic since they are loaded with pesticides.
  • How to successfully decline an invitation to drink alcohol in a social event.
  • Alcohol impacts our insulin and cortisol production, consequently affecting blood sugar levels and the adrenals.
  • If you are trying to lose weight cutting alcohol is one key element.
  • Tips for the holiday season: stay hydrated, eat veggies, protein and healthy fats, proper sleep, and moving.
  • Why you should stay away from beer.

Hoping this episode has given you more information and awareness regarding the effects of alcohol on our bodies, so you can choose differently to support your overall health. Wishing more simplicity and ease in all that you do!

During the holiday season we go through changes in our diets and habits, that is why I am extra cautious in how I take care of my system in terms of my nutrition, life style, sleep, movement ,hydration and supplements. Taking care of my liver is a priority since it is the organ responsible for more than 500 different functions every single day, detoxing as well as metabolizing your hormones. Each day I support my liver with Hepato DR from Saint Francis Herb Farm, it very antiinflammatory while assisting your immune system.

At this time of the year our gut health can be compromised, which  is strictly connected to our immune system. I use Genuine Health Gut Super Food to contribute to my gut microbiome, I just add a couple of scoops to my shake or water, it is a simple thing to do on a daily basis to help your body from the inside out.
