Sheela Zelmer is a physiotherapist who specializes in pelvic floor therapy and rehabilitation, and also happens to be my personal physiotherapist. In this episode we talk deeply about what exactly is pelvic floor health, how, why and when is the right time to visit a pelvic floor physiotherapist and what is involved during an assessment.
These are the main topics we address in this thoughtful conversation:
- What is Pelvic floor physiotherapy?
- The pelvic area in relationship with the rest of your body.
- Mental and emotional connection to the pelvic floor health.
- Your whole core is connected to your pelvic floor.
- Signs that tell you need a pelvic floor physiotherapist
- How is a pelvic floor assessment?
- What are Kegel exercises and who needs to practice them?
- What can be done to get your pelvic floor stronger or to soften it if it is rigid?
- Devices you can use to test pelvic muscle contractions.
- How often you should do pelvic floor exercises?
- Finding a good physiotherapist specialized in pelvic floor.
- Every woman should have an assessment of their pelvic floor.
My goal for today’s episode is that your curiosity has peaked enough to get you to pay attention, and to become more aware of the sensations and feelings of your body, as well as providing the tools and information to take charge of your own health. Wishing more simplicity and ease in all that you do!
