I am posting a variation of my recipe here that a Mom from Montreal put together for her infant. Her child was still be breastfeed but she was looking for something extra for the days she wasn’t with her baby and for when she decided to wean. This Mom also didn’t want a vegan or vegetarian based formula as they still use some dairy as a family. She chose goat milk and goat yogurt form a local farm as her base.

I love that Mom’s are taking their children’s health into their hands and listening to their Mommy gut!

This recipe would be a good option for the babe that does not show ANY sign of dairy sensitivity. Although goat milk and its products are easier on the system to break down, sensitive babies can still have issues. As always introduce slowly, watch your child for signs that this is making them happy or vital or it’s not and adjust from there.

Here’s to a paradigmal shift in creating happier, healthier babies from this day forward!

Desiree’s Baby Formula

Goat Milk Formula

36 ounces: 1 Liter

·       2 cups (475ml) Organic goat milk

·       1 7/8th cup (440ml) filtered water

·       1/4 cup (60ml) liquid whey* from goat yogurt or kefir (contains lots of good probiotics and is very nourishing; making it more like breast milk. To get whey simply strain goat milk yogurt) or Pine Hedge yogurt (cow’s)

·       1 -2 tsp organic blackstrap molasses (start with less, add more if needed. This provides B-vitamins, iron, trace minerals, and helped relieve constipation.)

·       1/4 tsp of probiotic powder (Udo’s)

·       1/2 teaspoon cod liver oil (Nordic Naturals Children’s DHA Cod Liver oil)

·       2 tsp Organic coconut oil (it contains lauric acid which is a medium-chain fatty acid. It’s an antiviral, antifungal that’s found in breast milk)

·       2 tsp nutritional yeast (contains the B vitamins )

·       1 tsp Genestra Pediatravite multi vitamin for infants

·       How to make homemade whey from store-bought dairy. Good quality plain yogurt or from raw or cultured milk. Use a large strainer that rests over a bowl. If using yogurt, place 2 quarts (1.9L) in the strainer lined with a tea towel. Cover with a plate and leave at room temperature overnight. The whey will drip out into the bowl. Place whey in clean glass jars and store in the fridge.
