Our Stay at Viamede Resort

A few months back I surprised my husband with a 3-day getaway to the Kawartha’s Viamede Resort on beautiful Stoney Lake. A chance for our children to have a weekend slumber party with their grandparents and for the two of us to relax, unwind, re-connect and finish a full conversation without being interrupted 🙂

The staff was so friendly and gave us a great tour of the space before showing us to our private cabin along the trail, nestled into the woods. We opened the door to a cute, rustic; bright space with a king size bed and bottle of wine with chocolate chilling on the bed and two glasses waiting to be filled.

We spent our first afternoon relaxing by the pool and taking in the gorgeous views before heading to the Boathouse for meal #1…De-Licious! Their locavore philosophy is evident across the menu, with ingredients right from their on-site farm and front lawn.

Everything was fresh, colorful and perfectly paired – two thumbs up from this nutritionist!

We spent our next few days taking full advantage of the free water sports like kayaking, canoeing and stand up paddle boarding from the beach, laying by the pool having great chats with the other guests and making our way through the serene trails around the property and visiting the animals on their home farm. The pigs were hilarious and by far our favourite little beings to spend some time with…they just loved my husband Chris.

Our last evening at Viamede we booked a reservation at Mount Julian with chef Kevin McKenna. We opted for the 9-course gourmet dinner with wine pairings, it was hands down one of my favourite meals EVER! The chef happened to be very good friends with The Tragically Hip – a band that is near and dear to our hearts and our 21 years together as a couple – and he named each of the 9 courses after a “Hip” song in tribute to lead singer Gord Downey. How amazing!

What was even more amazing was that the restaurant has a vintage record player and plays vinyl while you dine. All of the food was sourced either from the farm and land itself or locally within a few miles, so our server could tell us everything we needed to know.

I am still drooling over this meal and the ridiculously delicious wine pairings and fermented honey meade…OMG!

It was a night to remember.

Early the next morning the manager Ben took my husband out fishing for the opening Bass day and Chris caught a 19” fish, while I enjoyed my sleep in the cozy king size bed in our cabin.

I could go on and on about our stay at Viamede Resort, we absolutely loved it and wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be heading back up for another visit and this time with our children and our dog Charlie – YES you can bring your dog to the resort, how cool is that?!
