Maca is a nutritious plant root that helps to balance hormone levels, reduce stress, improve energy and improve your sex drive. Maca is an adaptogen that helps increase your body’s resistance to stress to help mitigate the effects of the stress hormone cortisol. Maca can help you sleep better, deal with stress more effectively, help with weight management, overall energy and vitality. Available in both powder or capsule form, I recommend powder, as it is easier to incorporate into recipes. 1-3 tsp daily added into your smoothie, oatmeal or a morning elixir (shown below) is the perfect way to optimize the use of this amazing super food. If you are looking to shift your morning routine, you can try the recipe below for one of my favourite rituals – a mug of my elixir (which is like a hug in a mug), featuring Maca. This elixir is one of 3 found in my new cookbook The Simplicity Kitchen, available this November 2016.

Satiating Morning Elixir

  • 1 cup of hot water or brewed organic coffee
  • 1 tbsp of dandy blend
  • 1 tbsp of collagen
  • 1 tbsp of grass fed butter
  • 1 chunk of cocoa butter
  • 1 tsp of MCT oil (optional)
  • 1 tsp of Maca
  • dash of turmeric
  • dash of cinnamon
  1. Toss ingredients into your blender. Close the lid and place a tea towel over the top of your blender to protect the hot liquid from shooting out. Hold the lid down securely.
  2. Blend all ingredients together in your blender, on the lowest speed for 60 seconds.
  3. Pour into your favourite mug, sip, enjoy!
