What Your Thyroid Blood Work May Not Be Telling You: Thyroid Under-Conversion

This pattern in the thyroid has been talked about in different medical literature for years, but is not effectively alleviated by thyroid replacement hormones. The majority of our thyroid hormone is in the form of T4, which is metabolically inactive; you see it has to actually be converted to T3 for use in the body. Most thyroid drugs being prescribed are synthetic T4, which isn’t showing up as deficient in the pattern of under-conversion, so the drug doesn’t make or create a significant enough shift or difference in how the individual is feeling.
The real problem is that the conversion of the hormone, which takes place in the liver and GI system (your gut), that’s the problem. This pattern is VERY common with chronic adrenal stress and elevated cortisol levels and decreased testosterone levels in the body.
All of this increased cortisol in our systems creates more inflammation and deeper oxidative stress in our bodies which not only contributes to thyroid issues but also premature aging and chronic illness.
Here are some very simple steps you can take today to feel better tomorrow:
Hydrate your body ~ 90% of everything you drink should be water. Not juice, pop, coffee, tea or milk but water. Ideally 3 litres per day to alkalize your system and keep your energy up and poop moving out!
Breathe! – Begin deep belly breathing. Take 5-10 deep belly breaths each morning and each night. This will help to calm your nervous system, to engage your digestion and help you sleep better at night.
Move your body! – You must exercise 4-6 per week, this is non-optional. You were born to bend, flex, sweat, twist and play with the body you’ve got. I don’t care what you do, just start doing something that you like and that makes you feel proud and great when you are done.
Sleep! – Lack of sleep is a major contributor to nearly every degenerate disorder and hugely impacts stress. For the most therapeutic sleep to your thyroid and adrenals lights out by no later than 10:30pm -11pm is a MUST! Keep your room dark and cool.
Cut out the stimulants that are adding extra stress to your adrenals and thyroid PLUS any refined garbage & chemicals – Caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, white sugar, white flour, aspartame, splenda, sucralose, hydrogenated oils, MSG, anything autolyzed and hydrolyzed.
Reduce your animal protein and increase your plant-based foods – Consume more organic produce, healthy fats, raw nuts and seeds, avocados, lentil, beans and a small amount of gluten-free grains.
