Ep #93 | Decluttering and Mental Wellness with Cathy Perez
In today’s episode, we are approaching this subject for the first time. We have talked many times about an overall simplicity in our lives, but today we will talk about how to implement this lifestyle at home, having fewer things, and better organization. It is not about being perfect but about creating a space that emulates that mental well being and declutters that we want to have in all aspects of our lives.
Cathy Perez is a certified wellness coach, she loves to use her own spin on the KonMari Method in which she is a Certified Organizing Consultant. Cathay shares her story about how she got into this field and how this system helped her deal with her anxiety and OCD in terms of organization. Cathy shares a lifestyle system that can create better focus and more productivity and wellness in her client’s lives.
These are the main topics of this awesome conversation:
- Cathay shares how she started her journey.
- How to begin using this system of organization to create simplicity in your life.
- Categories, not location: clothing, books, paper, miscellaneous and emotional items.
- A gratitude practice, no more guilt.
- What to do with all the empty spaces in your home.
- How often does someone have to go back to these categories?
- What to do with the things you don’t want any more during pandemic times.
- How to organize your paperwork
- How this approach is helping people in terms of their mental health and well being.
- Can you create decluttering in your own personal space if your family is not on board with you?
I hope that this episode has inspired you to create a little more simplicity and ease in all that you do!

Our bedrooms are a special place, it is where we come to rest, share time with our partner, and connect with our own thoughts, all these are very hard to achieve if we have lots of stuff around us. I want to share with you some of my evening routines that have created a really profound difference to my own level of rest and mental decluttering.
– I wear blue light Blockers (Spektrum is my favorite brand),
– I keep a journal and a book next to my bed. Before going to bed I write everything that is on my mind in my journal, I get all these out of my head so it does not conflict with my sleep.
– I read something light or inspiring.
– I use a sleep mask, the brand I use is Buckey, this one is particularly amazing because it has cups, that prevent it from touching your lashes and eyes. Definitely a lifesaver!
– I diffuse Serenity or Balance Doterra Essential Oils.
-I take a few drops of ValeryCalm from Saint Francis Herb Farm which I call a hug in a tincture bottle.
– I also use my Skin Essence Eye Cream
-I alternate a few oils around my eyes too, which I love, Light Oil, Soothe, and Nourish all from Skin Essence Organics.
