This week I want to examine the idea of ‘cheating’ on your health goals, vs ‘flirting’ with indulgence. I use the term ‘cheating’ loosely; most people who complain that they totally blew all their hard work by eating horribly are being slightly dramatic…and others, well not so much – but we’ll go there later.
First off, lets define and explain the difference between ‘cheating’ and ‘flirting‘:

Cheating is when you wake up and start the day off with sugar, white bagels, extra bacon, a mason jar of juice or adding creamy coffee flavoring to your cup(s) of joe. You eat a chocolate covered chewy granola bar for your morning snack, have Mr Noodle or a foot long meat sub with cheese on a white bun with a pop and cookie for lunch and then Chinese food and wine for dinner followed by 1/2 dozen chocolates for desert.
Flirting on the other hand is an egg and whole grain toast with fruit for breakfast, a luna or cliff bar for your morning snack, homemade nachos with veggies and cheese for lunch, handful of chips in the afternoon and a salad with goat cheese, chicken, veggies, pecans and a glass of red wine for dinner, and a tea and one cookie for desert.
Cheating is a slippery slope, too many days of this and you are going to need more than 50 squats a day to undo the damage 🙂 You should probably book a Personal Training session with me!
‘Flirting’ this is just part of life, it’s going to happen and so it should! Being healthy and feeling well is not about being perfect all the time…its impossible for anyone to keep that up. Being healthy is about making your best decision and choices most of the time and feeling good about them, which in turn makes you feel good about yourself. When you eat something or many things that you feel like you shouldn’t have…get over it! You can’t do anything about it now, so just lick your lips say yum and enjoy! It takes way more energy to mope about it than it does to pick up from where you are and choose healthier the next chance you get or to drop and do 50 squats.
You have to remind yourself that you have the ability to choose daily – in fact, 5-6 times daily – what you put into your mouth and do with your body.
So, what now? We’ll lets see… why not take a look at the week ahead of you and create a meal plan and workout regime. Nothing crazy, just a suggestion to yourself so that you have an action plan and are one step closer to your goals.
Drop the bag of chips or spoonful of ice cream and pick up a pen…a new week awaits you!
