If you answered an ecstatic YES! Then stop reading and turn around to go back, this post is not for you:)

I, being the nutritionist, have tried many, many times to eat my yogurt plain and it is never successful. I think I have used ever brand known to man, each time I see a new ad or commercial for one that claims to be ‘richer and creamier’ than the others I have a little glimmer of hope and say “okay, next time I am shopping I will try that one”. I buy it, try it and once again puff my yogurt-filled cheeks out, gritting my teeth together and silently gag and shudder to myself as I a swallow it down ‘gleeking’ the whole time (you know what ‘gleeking’ is, when you eat something thats makes you puckering your cheeks and jaw simultaneously as excessive amounts of drool enter your mouth…you know making you gleek!) and put it to the side of the fridge where it is now officially labelled ” for smoothies only”.

I know, I know, plain is ‘better’ for you because its low in calories, high in protein and low in sugar. Side note – NEVER buy yogurt such as Source or Silhouette or any others that advertise as being sugar-free they are full of either Sucralose, Splenda or Aspartame which are all known NEUROTOXINS and extremely dangerous to be consuming. Come on ladies, lets at least agree to one thing; we should be eating REAL food not man-made lab stuff. Your body can digest and breakdown the sugars found in flavoured yogurt, but it canNOT digest, breakdown, assimilate or detox NEUROTOXINS out of your system!

I digress…

Hands down my favorite yogurt is Liberte Organic Probiotic Vanilla…sooooooo yummy-good! Here are its nutritional stats broken down:

Calories 140, Fat 1g, Carbohydrates 25g, Sugar (from organic cane sugar & vanilla) 23 g, Protein 11g

Now Liberte also makes a Plain Greek  Yogurt with only:

Calories 110, Carbohydrates 6g, Sugars 5g, Protein 20g

The above stats are both based on 175g or about 1/2  cup serving. I am a big fan of flavored yogurt because I believe that if you are not enjoying what you are eating, than what is the point? But I am also a big fan of the Greek yogurt as a protein source in smoothies, easier to digest than most available protein powders, cheaper, great source of probiotics and calcium plus its makes for a very creamy delish smoothie accessory.

Food should be about ENJOYMENT, no matter what you are eating!

Now…for those of you and you know who you are, that are feaking right now about ‘cheating’ with your Vanilla or Strawberry yogurt ~ let it go, it’ll be okay…you won’t get fat:) And if you’re still not convinced and must stick with the plain at least try to liven it up a little with some of these suggestions:

  • Add fresh fruit like berries, apple or banana slices
  • 1/4-1/2 cup organic granola like Natures Path Flax or Hemp or Pomegrante Cherry
  • 1/4 Kashi Go Lean Crunch
  • drizzle in some Honey, Maple syrup or Agave Nectar
  • raisins
  • almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts or pecans
  • sunflower, pumpkin seeds or hemp seeds, flax or salba
  • cinnamon or nutmeg
  • carob chips
  • a little bit of organic jam
  • OR try it over a baked potato with salsa instead of butter & sour cream

Hope this helps you out? If not…gleek away!

I’m eating some Organic Vanilla Liberte right now with granola, flax & raisins…mmmmmmmmmm!
