If you’ve been indulging a little bit too much lately, and are feeing bloated, gassy and frustrated with yourself, it might be time for a simple detox.

As a part of my Simplicity Summer Series, I’ve planned a couple workshops for you, but first I want to get real, and talk about the In’s and Out’s of Detoxing.

First, I want to note that for me a detox is not chugging down gross drinks and living off of liquid for 21-days. A Simplicity inspired detox is one that introduces you to vibrant, hydrating, nourishing and straight-up delicious food – which will support your digestion, reduce inflammation, balance your blood sugar levels and eliminate bloating.

Here’s a good place to start…

The major routes of elimination in your body are your:

  • Lungs
  • Liver
  • Bowels (via the stool)
  • Skin
  • Kidneys (via urine)

Are your elimination pathways in trouble?

Your lungs may be overloaded with environmental toxins, chemical fragrances, cigarette smoke, air-borne pollution and a general lack of fresh air and exercise.

Your liver has to deal with A LOT! Manmade chemicals, alcohol and a vast array of prescription and recreational drugs.

Your bowels may be constipated and accumulating with waste instead of eliminating it.

Your poor kidneys are often starved of water and unable to flush toxins out and your skin is deprived of fresh air, sunshine, exercise and regular exfoliation.

Stress, busy schedules, late nights and poor quality foods have exhausted you and your nervous system.

A tired you is a toxic you!

The body generally heals from the inside out, the top down, from most recent to most distant symptoms, and from the most important organs to the less important ones. Some people may experience temporary symptoms from the process of detoxification such as; headaches, body aches, skin eruptions and dizziness.

What’s important to know is that more people FEEL AMAZING during and after a detox, than they do suffer or complain!

Set your intentions on feeling fabulous, cleaning out and cleaning up and if you do feel under the weather, repeat to yourself ‘better out then in’.

Move your body through gentle walks, yoga, focused breathing and by adhering to proper digestion guidelines, such as;

  • Eat in a calm, relaxed state and avoid eating when emotionally stressed or upset
  • Eat only when hungry and avoid overeating
  • Eat simply; especially if you have digestive upset. Try sticking to bone broth, smoothies, soups and herbal teas.
  • Hydrate your system with plenty of water, lemon water, coconut water and smoothies
  • Avoid drinking large amounts of fluid with your meals (drink before and after)
  • Create beauty and enjoyment out of your food and meals
If you want more tips and education about detoxing your body, clean living and getting back to your vibrant self, I’ve planned 2 workshops just for you…

I’ll be sharing plenty more tips and inspiration coming up over the next few weeks, so stick with me. If you want to get started on a detox RIGHT NOW, check out my free 7-Day Detox, which I released earlier this year.

If you’ve already done this detox, note that nothing has changed, but it can be used any time of the year when you simply need a quick reset after too much indulgence.
